One major correction right in the beginning - Gaza was not occupied by Israel since 2005. Not 1 soldier on the ground. Gaza was not controlled by any means, only had an airtight boarder (lol) and limit trade of dual use technologies. Gaza has a boarder with Egypt that can import anything from there.
Before oct 7 the average Gazans had better lives than most Arabs around the globe, with sushi restaurants and iPhones and no hunger to speak of.
I was using the term in the legal sense: Gaza is considered "occupied" under international law because of the local governing body's lack of control of the border, airspace, etc. So in that regard (which is the UN definition, I believe), the Strip has been occupied since 1967.
